ATHENS, Ga. – Tickets are on sale now for the ninth annual Athens Wine Weekend, scheduled for Friday through Sunday, February 2-4, at The Classic Center in downtown Athens.

The event is a benefit for The Classic Center Cultural Foundation, which provides resources to entertain and educate the community by supporting diverse performing, visual and culinary arts programs, while also offering scholarships to upcoming students of the arts.

The weekend kicks off with a special reception Friday evening. Featured chefs from Northeast Georgia, including Levy, Athens Country Club, Craft Public House, home.made, George’s Lowcountry Table, The Pine and Waterfall Club, will conduct an in-house presentation of Amuse-Bouche, a sampling of each chef’s cooking artistry, all paired with the perfect wine to arouse the palate. An Amuse-Bouche ticket includes seven tasting coins and are $30 per person.

The Saturday afternoon Grand Tasting will showcase hundreds of wines from around the world. Last year, over 1,000 people sipped and reviewed wines from various distributors. Grand Tasting tickets are $30 per person.

Wine lovers are encouraged to take their love of the grape to the next level by attending a wide variety of seminars from some of the most knowledgeable experts and sommeliers in the industry, including Frank Abbinanti of Levy, Iris Di Cicco from General Wholesale, Cain Hickey from UGA Viticulture, Simone Bergese of Chateau Elan, Doug Mabry from Georgia Wine Producers Association and a guest speaker from Northeast Sales. Seminar tickets are $5 per seminar or $15 for Frank Abbinanti’s premier seminar.

Topping off the day is the six-course Gourmet Dinner featuring dazzling presentations, expertly complemented by a wine selected specifically for each course. The French inspired dinner will feature a poached pear and goat cheese salad, pate with apricot compote, cassoulet, lamb chops, an array of French cheeses and a homemade apple tart served with French caramel custard ice cream, each paired with a select wine from some of France’s finest vineyards.

A silent auction is slated for Friday and Saturday, which in addition to the event proceeds, benefits The Classic Center Cultural Foundation.

The weekend concludes with a Sparkling Wine Sunday Brunch, featuring culinary delights with chef tables that include specialty Eggs Benedict, a mimosa bar and more, as well as an exclusive seminar.
