Meeting at The Classic Center Will Focus on Highway Safety

Law enforcement leaders and lawmakers will discuss highway safety at the meeting for the Piedmont Area Traffic Enforcement Network at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Classic Center.

The dinner meeting, hosted by Safe Campuses Now, will feature representatives from Clarke and eight area counties discussing highway safety issues such as impaired driving, seat belt usage, distracted driving, aggressive driving and speeding.

Guest speakers will be Robert Dallas, director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety; Athens-Clarke State Court Judge Kent Lawrence; Capt. Luther Hires of the Jesup Police Department; and Leigh Webb, a highway safety advocate.

After the meeting, officers will set up sobriety checks in Athens.
