As you may have heard, the entirety of the Broadway industry in New York City has been closed through at least the Spring of 2021, which will trickle down to our schedule in Athens as national tours are starting much later than hoped. We remain excited for our current lineup but expect that it will be further delayed with an estimated launch in the fall of 2021. For those of you that have already secured your seats, we do plan to host the same series performances, Hairspray, An Officer and a Gentleman and The Simon and Garfunkel Story, in the 2021-2022 season in addition to adding new wonderful titles as Broadway further emerges.
We will be updating our patrons via email, social media and media alerts as we receive further developments. We thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate these ever-changing times.
The Simon & Garfunkel Story The Classic Center Theatre
Now seen in 50 countries worldwide, The Simon & Garfunkel Story is a critically acclaimed concert-style theatre show about two young boys from Queens, New York who went on to become the world’s most successful music duo of all time.
Using state of the art video projection, incredible lighting, and a full live band, The Simon & Garfunkel Story is a moving and powerful concert featuring all the hits such as “Mrs. Robinson,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Homeward Bound,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Boxer,” “The Sound of Silence,” and many more. This is a show not to be missed!
An Officer and a Gentleman The Classic Center Theatre
Based on the Oscar®-winning film starring Richard Gere, An Officer and a Gentleman is a breathtaking production that celebrates triumph over adversity and includes one of the most iconic and romantic endings ever portrayed on screen. Featuring the Grammy Award®-winning, #1 hit single “Up Where We Belong,” and a score based on the 1980’s catalogue of music that gave voice to a generation, the live stage production is a new adaptation by multiple Tony Awards® nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Everyday Rapture), based on the original screenplay by Douglas Day Stewart. The musical is directed by Scanlan with choreography by Patricia Wilcox (Motown, A Night with Janis Joplin).
Zack Mayo’s got smarts and a body built for US Navy pilot boot camp, but he also has too much swagger…until he meets a drill sergeant who’s determined to drill his arrogance out of him. Zack finds comfort in the arms of a local factory girl. But it isn’t until tragedy befalls a fellow candidate that Zack learns the importance of love and friendship and finds the courage to be his best self and win the heart of the woman he loves. An Officer and a Gentleman is a sweeping romance that lifts you up where you belong.
Hairspray The Classic Center Theatre
You Can’t Stop the Beat! Hairspray, Broadway’s Tony Award®-winning musical comedy phenomenon that inspired the blockbuster film and live television event, is back on tour! Join 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960’s Baltimore as she sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show. Can a girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair) change the world?
Featuring the beloved score of hit songs including “Welcome to the 60’s,” “Good Morning Baltimore,” “It Takes Two,” and incorporating “Ladies Choice” from the musical film adaption, Hairspray is “fresh, winning, and deliriously tuneful!” (The New York Times).
This all-new touring production will reunite Broadway’s award-winning creative team led by Director Jack O’Brien and Choreographer Jerry Mitchell to bring Hairspray to a new generation of theatre audiences. Don’t miss this “exhilaratingly funny and warm-hearted musical comedy” (The New Yorker).
