Georgia Trustees Wine Challenge State Wine Competition Awards Banquet features gold-medal winning wines, meads and ciders. Four-course gala banquet showcasing Georgia culinary specialties and products will be served with wines from Georgia wineries.
Top awards will be announced during the banquet. Many are named to honor significant individuals in Georgia’s wine history. For instance, the top award is the Oglethorpe Trophy for the best wine made from Georgia-grown grapes is named for James Edward Oglethorpe, founder of the Georgia colony. The Trustees tasked the colonists with growing grapes and making wine as one of the profit centers for the enterprise.
Continuing the theme of Georgia products, which will compose the dishes served at the banquet, the awards presented at this event will be unique works of art made by Georgia artisans.
